5 Reasons May is Indy Blue Star MOTHER month
The entire month of May, Skydive Indianapolis is giving a percentage of every tandem skydive to Indy Blue Star Mothers. If you're not familiar, Blue Star Mothers is a national organization that's over 75-years old. Its mission is to support active armed forces and vets. Indy Blue Star Mothers brings a local focus to that mission. Here are five ways they help—and our five reasons for supporting their efforts.
1. Care packages for deployed Hoosiers.
Each year, Indy Blue Star Moms sends care packages overseas to our military. (On Memorial Day weekend, look for a table where you can fill out cards and send a care package of your own!)
2. Raising awareness for VETS, PTSD and suicide prevention.
For the past three years, Indy Blue Star Mother's has combined efforts with the Warrior Breed Motorcycle Club to bring the Annual Indy Blue Star Rally to Indianapolis. Starting at Southside Harley Davidson and ending at the Warrior Breed Motorcycle Club in Marion, the event raise awareness of PTSD and the importance of suicide prevention, as well as funds for veteran support and Gold Star presentations. 3. Christmas presents for vets at Lincoln Apartments.
This year, Indy Blue Star Mom's joined forces with the residents' association at Lincoln Apartments to bring a merrier Christmas to all. Lincoln Apartments provides affordable housing for vets, and Indy Blue Star Mom's helped provide stocking stuffers and presents for every resident.
4. Offers temporary support to vets in need.
From house repairs to medical emergencies to temporary housing assistance, vets turn to Indy Blue Star Mothers for relief and support. Whether this support is financial, emotional or physical, this organization strives to help in time of need.
5. Presentation to Gold Star Mothers.
When a mother's child enlists, she becomes a blue star mother. When that brave individual gives his or her life for our country, that blue star turns gold. Indy Blue Star Mothers is responsible for making the Gold Star presentations to these women, providing the accompanying banners and framed declarations. In addition, this organization—and in particular, its Gold Star members—offer their understanding and support.
It's a lot to do on a limited budget. This month, Skydive Indianapolis is going to help by donating a portion of every tandem skydive to this worthy organization.
